Our story begins in 2013 when we made the decision to continue serving our community through a family-owned restaurant called Zoup. Several years later, we decided to open a breakfast venue called Skrambowls adjacent to Zoup and were awarded a contract to move Skrambowls to the Illinois Veterans Home in 2018.
While operating Skrambowls, we were trying to think of how we could expand the breakfast-based menu to include some lunch options. We eventually decided to instead open an entirely new restaurant, and Chompz was born!
To us, Chompz is a labor of love and is reflected by our commitment to our customers; but also, a financial commitment to our employees.
To our customers: we go the extra mile to provide the best possible experience with every encounter. We’ve even delivered a basket of fries to Mendon because we forgot to include them in a customer’s order!
To our employees: each payday they take home a bigger paycheck than we do. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we take no pay at all and will continue to do so as long as needed. Our reward for the work we do comes from serving our community and the moments we share with our employees, like the one we shared in December of 2015. One of our employees pulled us aside to tell us that she was unable to provide gifts for her children to open on Christmas the previous two years, but that changed because of the employment opportunity we had provided her. We feel that giving to others is the most rewarding experience in life.
We greatly appreciate the support of our community and look forward to serving our customers and employees for years to come!
Founded by Steve Bunch, Chompz Great American Grill in Quincy, Illinois is his latest success in the restaurant business. Owning both Zoup and Skrambowls, Chompz allows Steve to share his passion and spin on a variety of 100% angus steak burgers from across the United States.
With Chompz, he knows the key ingredient to a delicious burger and knows the key to his success comes from his product, service to the customer, and taking good care of his employees.
While raising their family, Steve and his wife were heavily involved in volunteering at church, school, scouts, sports, and various ministries. Steve and his wife have a generous spirit and have been involved with serving their community for years. Opening their restaurants was the perfect next step to continue their service to the community.
We value our community and value our employees. We know that our success in this business has been because of your support. From our family to yours, thank you and we hope to see you soon.
